The scene meanwhile, has drifted further north. Anjuna the next sizeable village up the coast from baga. Is where most of the christmas new-year full-moon parties take palace. The picturesque settelment, scattered around paddy fields behind a supereb soft-sand beach. Is also renowned fot its wednesday flea market, where you can by anything from tibetan prayers wheels to cutting edge techno tapes. Further north still, vagator and chopra are the preserve of king-stay travellers who hole up in simple houses and huts untill the onset of summer drives them to cooler climes. Accommodation of any kind in thinner on the ground once you cross the chapora River from bardez into the mainly hindu taluka of pernem. The only place with anything resembling tourist scene this far north is the christian fishing community of arambol, which hosts a small continget of budget travellers and die-hard back to earthers.
The interior of north of goa- through bardez and pernem bicholim and safari talukas harbour few sights likely to entice you from the coast, although the vibrant Friday market at mapusa bardez`s largest town. Most of the tourist traffic arriving in north goa is siphoned off toward the coast through mapusa. For short trips between town and resort, motorcycle taxis are the quickest and most convenient way to get around, although buses also run to all the villages along the coast. Via the ferry crossing at siolim, 7 km north of anjuna, and querim. However, much the best way to travel to the quiester corner of the area is by rented motorcyle, availaible at all the main resorts.
